DKRZ user account#

A DKRZ user account is the main way to access resources provided by DKRZ. In most cases you will only need one user account from us. The account can be used to participate in a number of different projects at DKRZ. During your work you can choose which project’s resources to use.

You can create your new account from scratch or, in some cases, import an existing user account from other institutions. Importing is only possible for accounts by MPI-CIS or CEN-IT.

Creating a new account from scratch#

Do this only if you don’t have a user account by MPI-CIS (Max Planck Institute for Meteorology) or CEN-IT (some institutes at University of Hamburg).

Fill out the registration form at

https://luv.dkrz.de/register/

Note that your email address can only be used for one user account at DKRZ. Furthermore, we accept only email addresses from institutions known to us. Please contact us at support@dkrz.de if your email address is rejected by the server. This also applies to all email addresses from large email providers like Gmail.

The system will send an email to the registered address. Your preliminary account will be activated after you visit the link in the email.

At this point, you have two options to get a full DKRZ account with access to our HPC resources.

Join existing project#

After you log in at https://luv.dkrz.de, you can request to join a project on your projects page. The direct link is

https://luv.dkrz.de/projects/ask/

If project administrators accept your request, we will create a full DKRZ account for you. You will receive an email with further instructions once the user account is ready.

Import existing user account#

Importing is possible if you own a user account issued by MPI-CIS (Max Planck Institute for Meteorology) or CEN-IT (some institutes at University of Hamburg). The user name will start with m or u followed by six digits.

Log in with your user name and password by the beforementioned institutions

https://luv.dkrz.de/accounts/login/external/

Please keep in mind that we import certain settings like password, login shell and email address only at this point. They are not synchronized later. If you want to keep the same settings for your local and your DKRZ account, you will have to change them for both user accounts.

Since the user accounts are independent after import, you can keep your DKRZ account even if you change to a different institution and lose your current local account. Please update your contact information while you have access to your old account. Certain features like password reset are only possible if you can access your registered email address.
